Owatrol Teak Olje

Owatrol Teak Olje is a premium hardwood oil for the protection of teak and exotic hardwoods in interior and exterior environments.

Best Uses

Owatrol Teak Olje is ideal for the deep protection of hardwoods such as teak giving a rich, warm, matt finish to any treated wood surface. Teak-Olje replaces the natural oils lost by exterior wood in the weathering process and will not blacken when exposed to UV rays making it ideal for garden furniture. Also ideal for interior woods. Suitable for both horizontal and vertical use.

Application

General directions:
Surfaces must be clean, dry and free of dirt, grease, grime, mildew and previous coatings. Treat mildew with a 50/50 bleach/water solution. Scrub solution on to surface and allow to stand for 10-15 minutes, rinse thoroughly. After stripping and cleaning, allow wood to dry 2-3 good drying days or until it has reached a moisture
content of 18 % or less before applying finish. 

Owatrol Teak Olje may only be applied to bare wood surfaces or weathered wood surfaces previously finished with Owatrol Teak Olje. ALL other finishes must be completely and thoroughly removed. If necessary sand surface after cleaning and/or stripping (100 grit paper).

Preparation For New Wood:

• Interior - Sand wood with 100 grit paper to open the pores, dust off and degrease the surface with Methylated spirits (Denatured Alcohol).
• Exterior - Prepare as for interior wood OR treat surface with Owatrol Aquanett and neutralise with Owatrol Net-Trol.
• New wood surfaces have a hard shiny surface called mill glaze that prevents maximum penetration and bonding of any finish; sanding or treating the wood with Owatrol Aquanett removes this, ensuring maximum performance of the finish.

Preparation For Weathered Wood Surfaces (untreated):
Clean weathered wood with Owatrol Net-Trol, to remove the loose wood fibres, dirt and other surface contaminants. If wood is severely contaminated, clean with Owatrol Aquanett and neutralise with Owatrol Net-Trol.

Preparation For Previously Oiled Surfaces:
All other oils or sealers must be completely and thoroughly removed with Owatrol Aquanett and stripped surfaces neutralised with Owatrol Net-Trol, before applying Owatrol Teak Olje.

Preparation For Previously Coated Surfaces (Paint, Stain, Varnish, Waterproofers...):
All previous coatings must be completely and thoroughly removed with Owatrol Dilunett and the stripped surface neutralised with Owatrol Net-Trol before applying Owatrol Teak Olje.

Note: Hardwoods inc’ exotic hardwoods and woods rich in tannins i.e. Teak, Iroko, Merbau, Oak... may darken with Owatrol Aquanett and Owatrol Dilunett, neutralising with Owatrol Net-Trol immediately after rinsing will lighten and restore the woods colour.

Apply 2 even applications of Owatrol Teak Olje wet on wet. Apply 1st application of Owatrol Teak Olje and allow to penetrate, normally 15-20 minutes. Apply 2nd application and allow to penetrate. If required repeat this procedure until the wood is saturated i.e. will accept no more material. Do not allow Owatrol Teak Olje to become touch dry or dry between applications. Brush out or wipe up any excess Owatrol Teak Olje with a lint free cloth 15-20 minutes after last application to avoid shiny spots. Allow to dry.

Note: Owatrol Teak Olje is not a surface coating, its place is in the wood and not on the surface. Owatrol Teak Olje protects by penetrating the wood, providing a rich matt finish.
